Residents and businesses in Belgravia will soon benefit from access to super-fast broadband speeds after Openreach partners with property company Grosvenor Britain & Ireland.
The two have struck a deal to invest in and improve broadband infrastructure at sites across
Grosvenor’s London estate in Mayfair and Belgravia.
Grosvenor Britain and Ireland’s oldest and most coveted asset is London estate, which takes in swathes of Mayfair and Belgravia, two of the capital’s most prestigious residential neighbourhoods.
The upgrade is due to be completed by July 2018. According to Openreach, once the infrastructure upgrade has taken place, in excess of 600 businesses and homes will enjoy ‘download speeds 200 times faster than today’s UK average’.
Grosvenor is said to be pouring £2million of investment into the upgrade, which is set to turn Mayfair and Belgravia into one of the top five performing parts of the country for broadband speeds and Wi-Fi connections.
However, this move by Grosvenor forms only a part of its investment plans for Belgravia and Mayfair.
Executive Director for the London estate, Will Bax, said: “We have a 20-year vision that our London estate, at the heart of the West End, works harder for its communities and all Londoners by adapting – with better streets, greener spaces and more active and enterprising places that appeal to the many.”
He continued: “This digital upgrade, the first of its kind in a landmark deal, confirms our commitment to the long-term vision we have for this part of London. It epitomises our call for the partnerships and collaboration we need to secure the future of these districts at the heart of a thriving, global city.”
The digital upgrade should be of real benefit to local businesses, entrepreneurs, and residents.
