Irish chef Richard Corrigan’s menus are inspired by his rural upbringing. They offer good, home cooking, and are produced with his particular flair. At the same time, the interior is very sleek, with a pianist tinkling away on a baby grand piano at the entrance, giving the venue a five-star-hotel feel. The long marble bar has railway-style lamps perched on it; the décor is original yet somehow simple. There’s also a bit of humour thrown in: the romantically-lit dining room contains feathered lampshades and metal bird sculptures!
We recommend: the weekday market lunch menu at £25 two courses, £29 three courses.
The first dining room in the UK to obtain three Michelin stars, multi award-winning Le Gavroche tops TripAdvisor’s list of the best restaurants in Mayfair.
Run by Michel Roux Junior since 1991, the highlights on offer include the gruyere souffle with double cream and a boudin noir, served with a runny scotch egg, that can be found on the eight-course ‘menu exceptionnel’.
Ultimately, it’s the haute cuisine establishment to go to, which makes booking in advance highly advisable.
French connection: Le Gavroche bears the name of the street urchin from Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables.
We couldn’t write about restaurants in Mayfair without including Scott’s! An all-time classic, this is top of the list for many discerning diners, although it only just makes the top 10 on TripAdvisor.
Scott’s is not just a restaurant, it is an institution that is relaxed, friendly and serves amazing seafood.
The full a la carte menu, which also contains seasonal game, meat and vegetarian dishes, is served throughout the day from noon.
Celebrity spotting: Chef Nigella Lawson lists Scott’s as one of her favourite restaurants.
And now for something a bit different… London’s most glamorous Moroccan restaurant can be found in Mayfair. Momo not only serves up spectacular tagines and near-perfect cous cous, diners enjoy relaxing music and a Marrakech-style interior.
While the restaurant is tightly-packed, this gives an authentic flavour to the venue and doesn’t seem like an imposition.
Menu highlight: The juicy prawns wrapped in kataifi pastry.
Located on Conduit Street, Brasserie Chavot is ambitious in its attempts to refine French rustic cooking. It’s plush, yet solid and gracious, offering fantastic food at relatively low prices – you can pick up three courses for just £35.70. The reviews are as impressive as the menu, with one recent TripAdvisor entry saying: “A superb experience from the friendly welcome to the tour of the kitchen and a chance to meet Eric Chavot and his team.”
